Our story, thus far…
blunt axe design was founded on a simple belief: exceptional craftsmanship creates spaces that are not only beautiful, but lasting.
My journey began in garden design and landscaping, where I discovered that the most rewarding projects were often the bespoke elements—the handcrafted structures and finely detailed joinery that brought an outdoor space to life. From elegant pergolas and garden kitchens to custom seating, decks, and architectural timber features, I found my passion in creating pieces that were designed specifically for the people who would enjoy them.
Today, blunt axe design focuses on bespoke carpentry and joinery for homeowners and businesses who appreciate thoughtful design, quality materials, and skilled craftsmanship. Every commission is approached with care, balancing traditional techniques with practical, contemporary design to create work that feels both timeless and personal.
The name Blunt Axe reflects an appreciation for craftsmanship rather than perfection. A well-used axe carries the marks of years spent shaping timber, solving problems, and creating something meaningful. Like the grain of an old oak or the character found in reclaimed timber, those marks tell a story. We believe the finest pieces should do the same.
Our Philosophy
Great craftsmanship begins with great materials.
Wherever possible, we work with reclaimed timber, celebrating its character while reducing unnecessary environmental impact. When new timber is required, we source it responsibly through trusted independent sawmills and suppliers across the UK, prioritising local businesses wherever practical.
Sustainability is not an afterthought—it is part of our approach to building pieces that endure. By combining carefully selected materials with meticulous craftsmanship, we create bespoke work designed to be enjoyed for generations rather than replaced after a few years.
For us, quality is measured not only by how something looks on the day it is finished, but by how well it serves its owners for decades to come.
